From translation to printing press

Efficient translation of text and layout

Our portfolio of services also includes the steps that follow translation, up to print-ready layout. While many other providers are only able to handle simple text files, we have the technical capabilities to translate files that were laid out in desktop publishing formats. Working in conjunction with our sister company Kaleidoscope, we use a proprietary export filter to export text from layout formats such as QuarkXPress, InDesign, FrameMaker, PageMaker, Illustrator, CorelDraw, Visio, Freehand, and Interleaf. After translation, the texts are automatically imported back into the original layout. All structural and format characteristics of the original document, such as fonts, graphics, and special characters remain intact in the translated target document.

We distinguish between two types of layouts:

Rough layout

After importing, our graphic designer checks the placement and completeness of translated text passages. The result is known as a rough layout. This is suitable for situations where you would like to complete graphical details on your own.

Fine layout

When desired, we are also happy to perform the finishing touches such as correcting excessive text length and foreign-language syllable divisions. In this case, the final product you receive is a properly laid out and translated printer's copy.

Regardless of the original layout format and platform (PC, Mac), we have the necessary DTP and graphical design capabilities to automate the translation process and ensure efficient and cost-effective completion of your project.
